The Guanfu Cats: from Stray Animals to Star Cats

In 2003, the Cat named Hua Feifei (literally, fluffy & flowery) came to the Guanfu Museum (a private institute with personal collections of the famous scholar Mr. Ma Weidu) and became the first Cat Ambassadors of the Museum.

20 years have passed, and now more strayed or abandoned cats have become the dweller of the museum. Thanks to the attentive, scientific, and responsible caring of the museum personnel, these cats enjoy their healthy and leisurely life, thus becoming a special highlight of the Guanfu Museum. The shift from stray animals to stardom marks the brilliant combination of humanitarian caring and scientific spirits.

Celebrity Doctor Dispelling the Misunderstandings of Scientific Cat Raising
Cat-raising should be formulated based on these animals' daily habits and behavioral characteristics. For example, cats are carnivores with a single diet (meat). They stop hunting after being domesticated, so many develop obesity due to reduced energy burning. Therefore, quantitative and ad libitum feeding should be adopted since pet cats often receive excessive calories.

Come to the Hospital before Your Cat is Sick: Importance of Routine Wellness Examination
The essence of preventive medicine is prevention outweighing cure. Spending a small amount on yearly physical examinations can save you a lot more, give early detection and corresponding treatment, prolong your pet’s life, improve the odds of quality companionship.

Common Feline Diseases: Heart Disease for Example
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common feline heart disease, affecting up to 15% of pet cats. To identify the occurrence of HCM as soon as possible, regular physical examinations must be performed, of which ultrasonography is the golden standard.

Guest Participant of the Event

My name is JC. I work in the education industry with two cats at home: one is five years old, and the other is seven years old. I am delighted to come to the Guanfu Museum today and participate in this Cat Ambassadors Getting a Fitness Check event organized by the Mindray Animal Medical. I learned a lot about animals. People have many misunderstandings about raising cats, and I shall do my best to educate people around me about sensible cat-raising because cats are part of our family.

At the free clinic, three experts examined the Guanfu Cat "Wang Qingsheng."

The doctor gave a comprehensive explanation of the cat's physical examination.

Before interpreting the report, Dr. Mao Junfu conducted a basic physical examination for Wang Qingsheng. Then she explained the key concepts of the hematology report as well as chemistry report to the audiences.

CBC with Differential results generated by Mindray Animal Medical's high-end 6-part diff veterinary auto hematology analyzer BC-60R Vet.

The results showed that Wang Qingsheng had an elevated white blood cell count. No specific signs of inflammation were found after communication between Dr. Mao Junfu and the Guanfu staff. Wang Qingsheng likely suffered chronic feline rhinitis before being rescued. For his health, it was recommended that he should take doxycycline (50 mg), one tablet once a day, with another blood test two weeks later.

Dr. Zhang Zhihong demonstrated the Color-Doppler ultrasound examination of a feline patient's heart. She also answered all cardiac ultrasound examination questions in detail to the cat-loving owner's.

Ultrasound imaging finding results showed that Wang Qingsheng had mitral regurgitation, but it was not a myocardial disease. He will need to intake taurine supplementation and continued monitoring in 3 months.
